(AP) ? The company that makes Apple's iPhones suspended production at a factory in China on Monday after a brawl by as many as 2,000 employees at a dormitory injured 40 people.

The fight, the cause of which is under investigation, erupted Sunday night at a privately managed dormitory near a Foxconn Technology Group factory in the northern city of Taiyuan, the company and Chinese police said. A police statement reported by the official Xinhua News Agency said 5,000 officers were dispatched to the scene.

The Taiwanese-owned company declined to say whether the factory is involved in iPhone production. It said the facility, which employs 79,000 people, will suspend work Monday and reopen Tuesday.

Foxconn makes iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc. and also assembles products for Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. It is one of China's biggest employers, with some 1.2 million workers in factories in Taiyuan, the southern city of Shenzhen, in Chengdu in the west and in Zhengzhou in central China.

The unrest happens at a critical time for Apple. The fight started days after the launch of the latest iPhone model in the U.S. and eight other countries. The phone quickly sold out in most stores in the U.S. and Apple has a three to four-week backlog of online orders as it ramps up production to meet demand.

On Monday, Apple said it sold 5 million units of the new iPhone 5 in the first three days, less than analysts had expected. Its stock fell 1.4 percent to $690.50 in midday trading.

The fight in Taiyuan started at 11 p.m. on Sunday, "drawing a large crowd of spectators and triggering chaos," a police spokesman was quoted by Xinhua as saying.

Order was restored after about four hours and several people were arrested, said the company, a unit of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. It said 40 people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The violence did not appear to be work-related, the company and police said. Comments posted on Chinese Internet bulletin boards said it might have erupted after a security guard hit an employee.

Photos posted on microblog service Sina Weibo showed broken windows, a burned vehicle and police with riot helmets, shields and clubs.

Phone calls to police headquarters and the Taiyuan city hall were not answered. People reached by phone at restaurants and other businesses in the area said they had no details about the clash.

In the past year, Foxconn has faced scrutiny over workers' complaints about wages and working hours. The company raised minimum pay and promised in March to limit hours after an auditor hired by Apple found Foxconn employees were regularly required to work more than 60 hours a week.

(AP) ? Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 43-yard field goal on the last play as the Oakland Raiders scored the final 13 points after wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was knocked out and hospitalized by a scary hit to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-31 on Sunday.

The game turned somber early in the fourth quarter when Heyward-Bey was knocked unconscious by a helmet-to-helmet hit in the end zone by Steelers safety Ryan Mundy that was not called a penalty by the replacement officials. Heyward-Bey was taken to the hospital with a neck injury.

Carson Palmer then threw his third touchdown pass for Oakland (1-2) and Janikowski kicked two field goals to beat the Steelers (1-2) and give coach Dennis Allen his first win.

The Raiders took over with the game tied at their 25 with 1:42 remaining. Palmer got the drive going with a 24-yard pass to Brandon Myers on third-and-10 and then hit Derek Hagan on a 17-yard pass down to the Pittsburgh 26 with 27 seconds left.

Oakland then ran down the clock to set up Janikowski's winning kick that send the crowd into delirium less than an hour after silence overtook the stadium when Heyward-Bey was injured.

Mundy's helmet hit Heyward-Bey in the facemask on an incomplete pass in the end zone. Heyward-Bey's neck jerked violently and his head also crashed into the ground. Players from both teams kneeled in prayer as Heyward-Bey was attended to for about 10 minutes. He managed to raise his right hand while being taken off the field on a cart to go to the hospital with a neck injury.

Four plays later, Carson Palmer eluded pressure and found Denarius Moore on a 6-yard touchdown pass that brought Oakland within 31-28 early in the fourth quarter.

Raiders cornerback Pat Lee then forced a fumble downfield by Pittsburgh receiver Antonio Brown that Philip Wheeler recovered at the Oakland 36. Palmer then drove the Raiders down the field and they tied the game on a 32-yard field goal by Sebastian Janikowski with 6:30 to play.

With the Steelers missing Pro Bowl defensive stalwarts Troy Polamalu (calf) and James Harrison (knee), the Raiders were able to move the ball effectively most of the game.

Darren McFadden ran for 113 yards, including a 64-yard TD burst in the first quarter that surpassed his rushing total from the first two games of the season combined.

Palmer overcame an interception on the first play of the game to go 23 for 33 for 209 yards and three touchdowns, including a 3-yarder to Heyward-Bey late in the first half.

But Roethlisberger was even better, throwing two TD passes to Heath Miller in the first quarter, as well as third-quarter scores to Mike Wallace and Brown. Roethlisberger finished 36 for 49 for 384 yards as Oakland failed to generate any sustained pass rush.

But he failed to convert a third-and-9 under pressure following the two-minute warning to give Oakland the chance at the winning score.

Each team converted a turnover into a touchdown in the opening half with the Steelers taking a 17-14 lead at the break after Roethlisberger 64 yards in the final 1:54 without a timeout to set up Shaun Suisham's 33-yard field goal on the final play.

The half started well for the Steelers as well when Palmer was intercepted by Ryan Clark on the first play from scrimmage after Moore slipped on the infield dirt while making his cut.

Roethlisberger converted one fourth down before throwing his first of two 4-yard TD passes to Miller in the opening quarter. In between those scores, McFadden scored on the longest run against the Steelers since 2006.

Oakland tied the game again late in the half after Joselio Hanson recovered a fumble by Jonathan Dwyer at the Pittsburgh 30. The Raiders then drew Ziggy Hood offside with a rapid shift on fourth down and Palmer found Heyward-Bey on the next play.

So vein! Check out shirtless Hugh Jackman

By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Those claws might be a prop, but the movie magic stops there. When we first saw the recently released promotional shot of Hugh Jackman as "The Wolverine," we wondered if the image of Jackman with veiny, rippling muscles and diamond-cut abs?might be a result of a CGI-enhanced workout.

Hugh Jackman seen on the beach in Australia, left, and in a promotional image for his new movie, "The Wolverine."

But based on a candid shot of Jackman at the beach, we're sold. What you see in the "Wolverine" poster is all Hugh Jackman.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jackman, 43, was asked to gain 25 pounds of muscle for the film. He contacted Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who told him to gain a pound a week by by eating 6,000 calories daily, focusing on chicken, steak and brown rice. It's not a diet for everyone, but it seems to have worked.

In 2011, Jackman confessed that his wife is "always upset with me if I'm in really good shape," joking he shouldn't outshine her.

"The Wolverine" is scheduled for a July 2013 release. It will be the sixth "X Men" film and a sequel to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," also starring Jackman.

Taking gingko biloba does not improve memory, study finds

ScienceDaily (Sep. 21, 2012) ? Taking Gingko biloba supplements does not improve memory, attention or problem solving in healthy individuals, according to researchers from the University of Hertfordshire.

The paper, published in Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental, is the first meta-analytic review examining the effects of Gingko biloba on healthy people across all age groups. The researchers led by Professor Keith Laws found zero impact on the cognitive functions whatever the age of the people, the dose taken or the length of time of taking Gingko biloba supplements.

Gingko biloba, the oldest tree living species, has been used extensively in traditional Chinese herbal medicine for thousands of years.? Today, it is one of the most widely used plant-based products available without prescription in Europe and North America, where is it marketed as a dietary supplement to treat blood disorders and, more specifically, to enhance memory both for healthy individuals and also for those trying to ward off Alzheimer?s Disease.

Keith Laws, Professor of psychology, said: ?Gingko biloba has been widely used for a number of years to reduce the mental decline associated with aging.? But more recently it has been marketed as a memory enhancing supplement for healthy individuals ? and it is crucial to establish the validity for such claims.

?Our findings show that taking Gingko biloba supplements at any age to boost memory have no impact at all ? and may be a waste of time and money.?

The paper, ?Is Gingko biloba a cognitive enhancer in healthy individuals? A meta-analysis?, examines the published research of thirteen randomised control trials of over 1000 healthy individuals across all ages.?

Other recently published studies have also shown that there is no evidence to support taking Gingko biloba supplements to protect against developing Alzheimer?s Disease.

FOOTBALL: Three thoughts from Ball State's win over South Florida

Published:?Saturday, September 22, 2012

Updated:?Saturday, September 22, 2012 21:09

Three thoughts from Ball State?s 31-27 win against South Florida

Ball State came determined

It seemed like Ball State?s offense and defense came ready to play against South Florida. The offense converted several times on third and long situations and took advantage on penalties against South Florida?s defense. The third quarter was again friendly to Ball State as the team scored two touchdowns, one on a run by quarterback Keith Wenning, the other a pass to wide receiver Jamill Smith. The defense also came up on big plays by stopping South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels on third downs. The only let down was South Florida?s drive late in the fourth quarter.

South Florida ruined by penalties

Whether it was allowing Ball State?s drives to continue or hurting its own, South Florida hurt itself all game on penalties. Ball State?s touchdown drives came after penalties kept the drives alive. South Florida also had several holding penalties which stalled its drives. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bulls had a holding penalty and a personal foul penalty on consecutive plays but were able to convert and pick up the touchdown.

Willie Snead comes up big again

After a huge catch to set up the winning field goal against Indiana last week, Snead came up with a huge game-winning touchdown catch with 1:02 left in the game. It?s the second straight week Snead came up with a huge catch late in the game. It also looks like his chemistry with Wenning is really growing this season.

Fitness Equipment Buying Tips

Fitness Equipment Buying Tips

Fitness Equipment is an important part of a weight loss schedule for many people. During the summer we always get a chance to get out and exercise but in the winter we really have to rely on our home or gym fitness equipment. I have dealt with joining extensively in the past so now I will just assume that you are interested in doing weights and cardio at home with your own fitness equipment.

Cardio Equipment

I thought I would start with Cardio equipment as that is the most common equipment that someone thinks twice about before trying. The first piece of fitness equipment that I bought years ago was a stair machine, actually it was a stepper. When the fad in the late 80?s for stair machine started that is exactly what I got and to be perfectly frank the think sucked. A good quality stair machine should be smooth to use and this stepper was not very good, it was clunky and uncomfortable. After a few weeks out stepper turned into a clothes hangar and just collected dust.

About five years ago my wife and I bought a good quality stair machine and treadmill as our first pieces of fitness equipment! We found a great place that sold new and used fitness equipment and we bought the first two pieces of one year old cardio equipment for about 1600 dollars! (I know this is a bit much for most people) and then each year for the next two years we traded one in and bought a different piece of fitness equipment we would lose about 100 dollars a year on the equipment this way. We now have a good 3 year old stationary bike and a good three year old elliptical trainer. To us this has been the best way to buy fitness equipment that we would actually use. No matter what your budget it is a real treat to have tow pieces of fitness equipment in the house that changes every year.

Weight equipment

Weights and weight equipment is a pretty easy purchase. You need the following:

Weight Bench

Weights

Barbell

Dumbbells

My weight bench inclines so that I can have it flat to do my flat bench exercises and then I can angle the back up to do incline bench presses and incline flyes. My bench is pretty stable which is important because the weight exercises are hard enough that you do not want to worry about your fitness equipment falling over while you are using it.

The way that I have done this is that I have two short bars with screw ends to put the weights on and a old barbell that has slip collars that screw in (the generic ones you see everywhere). I bought weights that I could add at any time to either the dumbbells or barbells and in addition to this I have a few rubber dumbbells of 15, 20, 25 and 30 pounds. With these rubber dumbbells I have most of the common weights that I need so that I am not constantly having to set up the bars.

OK, the buying part of the weights is where you can really save money on fitness equipment. Look in your local buy and sell or bargain finder or newspaper and also try garage sales. Remember the last thing that people want to move when the move are weights that they never use. New weights cost almost a dollar a pound so never buy weight new but instead buy them used.
