More than 1,300 residents visited a pop-up shop offering information and advice about cancer.
Set up in partnership between Croydon Council and the London Health Improvement Board, the Get to Know Cancer pop-up shop was visited by more than 1,300 people during its five week pilot in the Centrale Shopping Centre.
During the pilot, cancer nurses gave 279 one-to-one consultations advising people on a range of issues including body mass index (BMI) and more general cancer symptoms.
Nearly 200 visitors were recommended a visit to a health service and 116 were advised to see their GP.
Councillor Margaret Mead, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: "The Get to Know Cancer pop-up shop was a great success and I am delighted that it has helped Croydon residents learn more about spotting the signs and symptoms of cancer.
"We don?t want people in Croydon to live in fear of cancer but to know that it can be treated and that help is available."
