Three thoughts from Ball State?s 31-27 win against South Florida

Ball State came determined

It seemed like Ball State?s offense and defense came ready to play against South Florida. The offense converted several times on third and long situations and took advantage on penalties against South Florida?s defense. The third quarter was again friendly to Ball State as the team scored two touchdowns, one on a run by quarterback Keith Wenning, the other a pass to wide receiver Jamill Smith. The defense also came up on big plays by stopping South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels on third downs. The only let down was South Florida?s drive late in the fourth quarter.

South Florida ruined by penalties

Whether it was allowing Ball State?s drives to continue or hurting its own, South Florida hurt itself all game on penalties. Ball State?s touchdown drives came after penalties kept the drives alive. South Florida also had several holding penalties which stalled its drives. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bulls had a holding penalty and a personal foul penalty on consecutive plays but were able to convert and pick up the touchdown.

Willie Snead comes up big again

After a huge catch to set up the winning field goal against Indiana last week, Snead came up with a huge game-winning touchdown catch with 1:02 left in the game. It?s the second straight week Snead came up with a huge catch late in the game. It also looks like his chemistry with Wenning is really growing this season.
