Oliver Mansion offers holiday tours

The historic Oliver Mansion has kicked off the Christmas season with its holiday tours.

Every Sunday the South Bend landmark is inviting groups to travel back in time and experience the holiday through the family?s eyes.

As groups tour the mansion, they are greeted by actors dressed in period costumes playing the roles of the Oliver family. Amid the three floors of authentic furniture, guests will find over 10 Christmas trees, decorated fireplace mantels, and a lot of history.

According to Marilyn Thompson the Marketing Director at Center for History, the mansion has added a new element of fun, ?as the people are walking through the rooms, they are provided with a clue for several of the rooms, then they need to find holiday decorations that are part of the clue. We're finding that people are very excited about that.?

Curators at the museum began setting up the day after Halloween, and according to Thompson, it is a full time job.

While the decorations may be the draw to the mansion at this time of year, Thompson says that visitors end up learning a lot more about history.

?They?re learning about the architecture of the house, the Oliver family and their wonderful story,? she says.

The holiday treasure hunt will be held each Sunday through the month of December. Due to high demand the Center for History recommends making a reservation before going.
